Introduction To Live Visuals

Learn the fundamentals of live performance through direct manipulation of video signals.  In this 3 hour, hands-on workshop we will cover

  • basic concepts of camera & framebuffer feedback

  • how to use analog and digital video mixers & processors

  • circuit bent and glitch video techniques

  • video oscillator systems

  • hardware and software video synthesis systems

  • reaction diffusion systems, nonlinear dynamics, and topics in generative art

Whether you are brand new to video art looking for a way in or an experienced veteran looking to fill in some gaps this class will have something for you.  No prerequisites needed to have a good time!

About the instructor:  Andrei Jay has been developing hardware and software video synthesizers through Video Synthesis Ecosphere since 2019.  They have been taught video synthesis classes at Phase Space Brooklyn, Polyphase Portal, Fu:Bar, Wesleyan University, SVA, NYU, Calarts, and many other various institutions across the US.  You can find out more information about them at https://andreijaycreativecoding.com.

-This workshop is intended for folks ages 18 and up.  You will be on your feet and active for the duration of this workshop.  Flickering and strobing lights will be unavoidable during portions of this workshop.
