WEIRD MUSIC NIGHT
SATURDAY JUNE 20
7:00pm - 10:00pM
Florian @ Yale Quantum Institute
Like weird music? The Yale Quantum Institute got you covered with a free and open to all musical set/performance made with quantum computers! Quantum Sound, the first-ever music created and performed directly from measurements of superconducting qubits, created by YQI Artist-in-Residence Spencer Topel in 2019, will be featured at Weird Music Night. If you missed the live performance in 2019, this is your chance to catch it again, with a brand new light show/weird performance by YQI AiR curator Florian Carle.
BUY IT..BURN IT…
Colors are ideas, notes, genres and timbres whose shifting proportions are translated into music: a transient auditory summary of a specific time and place. Two knobs abstractly guide millions of probabilistic interactions while unpredictable moments evolve into an unforeseeable future. Should be fun. burnitbuyit.com
Brian Ember
“Brian is one of the weirdest weirdos in the best and most brilliant way. Perfectly marinated in a strange broth of complex personal philosphy and operatic inclinations. Seasoned with seasoning. Grilled to perfection. A creative cannibal’s favorite dish…best served on a Weird Music Night. HELLO.” - John O’Donnell, Curator of Weird Music Night
Ember studied classical composition at the Mannes College of Music in New York City, where he also hosted a poetry open mic on the Lower East Side, joined more choirs, and continued studying voice. His classical training led him to create a string-quartet rock band called the Tet Offensive, which began as a cover band and emerged into a songwriting vehicle for Ember over the past several years. After starting a family, he moved to New Haven, Connecticut, where he has been for a startlingly long time. Now Brian Ember does whatever the fuck he wants. As it turns out, that just means he’s singing a lot and writing string quartets and pop records. Frustratingly self-aware at how not dangerous he is, he makes up for it with the occasional swear word.
The WMD (Wilcox/Malec Duo)
WMD is a collaborative experimental music project featuring Connecticut-based musicians Jeff Wilcox and Adam Malec. They frequently perform at regional avant-garde and experimental showcases.
