Over the past decade, my practice has centered on the interplay between active and passive viewing. I invite audiences to engage with my work physically, encouraging exploration beyond the visual to a full-bodied experience. This performative approach transforms my sculptures into dynamic interactions, emphasizing the body's role in the act of perception.

Melanie Carr is a CT based artist who received her MFA from the College of Art and Design at Lesley University in 2011. Carr began her studies in visual art after serving in the USN. After a 10 year career at the New Britain Museum of American Art as the Director of Visitor Experience & Curator of New Media, she is now a visual art faculty member at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT where she teaches drawing and sculpture. Previously, Carr taught a variety of studio art and arts administration courses at the University of Connecticut, Central Connecticut State University, University of New Haven and Albertus Magnus College. Carr has an extensive exhibition record in the states and has organized myriad exhibitions before opening an artist-run hybrid project space which was dedicated to presenting thoughtfully curated work from emerging to mid-career artists from 2017 to 2020.
