Down in the Basement
We envision this space becoming a thriving artist/ community workshop space- your donation will help us activate this underutilized asset.
Circa 1961 -Harold teaching classes in the basement of the Ely Center. His daughter, Abbie recalls-- As a child I spent a lot of time in the basement of the Ely House attending children’s art classes taught by my parents who cofounded the Creative Arts Workshop. Later they moved the CAW classes to Audubon Street.

Ely Center always felt like a living room in town: a truly open, welcoming, redemptive space, maintained by a caring community and dedicated solely to the arts. - Aude
The Ely Center of Contemporary Art has been to me a threshold between serious creative artists and people just learning their craft. The intimate interior setting avoided the glaring white overbearingness of many other art galleries and non-profits, while providing a beautiful context for the works shown there. The artists that I’ve seen at ECOCA’s shows range from student groups, local art clubs, to working professional artists; all this range of experience only deepening as the current iteration of ECOCA seeks to open their hearts and minds even wider. - - Eoin
