Join us today, April 2 for two events: OPENING RECEPTION Truth in Three ColorsAhree Lee: Program and PatternSUNDAY, APRIL 2, 3-6PM The exhibition Truth in Three Colors is inspired by legendary jazz artist Charles Mingus. Truth can not be bent. It can be interpreted therefore be manipulated into something else, yet the foundation of the truth remains. The selected artists take a look at what is true from their gaze and social circumstances. The works in the exhibition Ahree Lee: Program and Pattern highlight female labor in technology, whether in the Bauhaus weaving workshop, the history of women weaving computer memory cores and industrial-scale textiles, or the unpaid domestic labor that undergirds paid economic activity. They reclaim weaving as a computational activity and reframe computing as a craft, bringing technology back to its original meaning. Weaving Workshop with Ahree LeeSUNDAY, APRIL 2, 1:30-3PM Join us for a weaving workshop with artist Ahree Lee. The workshop is free and open to all. Materials are provided. The first computer program was written by a woman and the design of the first computers was inspired by the jacquard weaving loom — historical facts that are little-known today. New media and textile artist Ahree Lee will share her recent body of work which explores the interconnections between weaving and computing, and the often-overlooked but essential role of women and textiles in the development of coding, while demonstrating the interconnections between fiber-related arts and computing by guiding participants in making their own weaving. This workshop is made possible with support from the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation and the Whitney Humanities Center at Yale.
