A message from our director This spring, artist Emily Weiskopf’s curatorial vision “Chaos with a Side of Spaghetti” has become a way of naming what so many artists are already doing. “Chaos with a Side of Spaghetti is response and survival. The artists laugh in the face of impossible odds. You take our healthcare, we pick up the brush. You wage wars, we build worlds. For every right stripped away, there is a video, a painting, an assemblage. We meet the absurd with humor, comfort, vices, and despair, still searching for beauty, for joy and laughter. Like spaghetti thrown at the wall. We’ll see what sticks. Today, if only to take your mind off things for moment.”
At ECOCA, we see artists responding to uncertainty with invention, humor and resistance every day.
Our role is to make space for that response.
We are currently in transition, operating out of CitySeed’s building in Fair Haven while working toward securing a permanent home. We’ve already raised over $500,000 toward that goal. During the Great Give, we are raising $15,000 to unlock a $5,000 match and reach our $20,000 target.
This is not just about a building. It is about keeping space open for artists to respond to the world as it is—and imagine what it could be.
