Dear Friend of the Ely Center, At a time of upheaval and anxiety in our world and in the cultural sector, ECOCA serves as a consistent, dependable, welcoming and inclusive space for artists and audiences. This year has shown us that we are large enough to hold space, literally and metaphorically, for many perspectives and points of view. Please help us broaden and deepen the impact of this work with a gift today. Artists are in our building in many exciting ways: • The Brush & Palette Club holds a weekly Figure Drawing session in the studio, as it has for decades. • Our pilot Keyhole Residency activated the top floor to help transform the old servants spaces into rooms for artists to develop their work. The results of our first cohort—Amartya De, Lesley Finn and Vera Wu— are now on view! • Many community groups have taken advantage of our subsidized spaces for meetings, presentations and even storage. • Our growing volunteer Curatorial Committee is developing expertise, for example, the current show by esteemed local artists Howard el- Yasin and Suzan Shutan, Ways of Seeing, through January 14, 2024. • Our new Gallery Director, artist Aimée Burg, is shaping our programs to feature artists engaged in collaborations and partnerships with climate, health, education and other arts organizations. Your donation helps us to keep doing this work in the following ways: Our Exhibition Fund helps us cover the cost of our beautiful space, insurance, lighting, modest staff and oversight of our volunteers and student interns. It also allows us to keep our Sunday Fun Days and our Weekly public tours free. Our Pay it Forward Fund is a scholarship program that means we won’t turn away any artist who can’t afford the application administration fee. More than 500 artists applied to the 2023 Open Call!
