What an influence this old has had on my life! It was a new venue for art classes in 1962 and I was a young teenager learning to see and draw and paint. An extraordinary teacher showed us that art isn’t about pretty pictures, and my world blew open. Later, as an art teacher myself, my students exhibited at the Ely House in the annual high school exhibit. And as an artist, the galleries have shown my work for decades. I have benefitted as student, teacher, and artist. So very many people have had new opportunities because of this space at 51 Trumbull Street. Let’s support ECOCA and get this beautiful old structure in good shape. Please contribute and carry on the tradition of making The Ely Center of Contemporary Art a primary venue for the fine arts into the future. Image above from an assignment in 1964.
